Swing: It’s a Community Thing
Aerial artists Alana Cole-Faber (UpSpring Studio, Mt Rainier, MD), Mara Neimanis (In-Flight Theater, Baltimore, MD) and Kirsty Little (An Act Above, London, UK) pool their talents to create Swing.
Swing is a performance-in-progress combining aerial choreography with community voices to create fresh, honest aerial movement integrated with the audience’s own stories. Swing will examine what the word “swing” sparks in the imaginations of community members in order to devise narratives for an aerial performance. The aim is to fly the community’s stories so the audience can actually see themselves reflected in flight.
As part of this project, the artists will spend a week in residence at Joe’s Movement Emporium. The public is invited to stop by Joe’s for open studio hours from 5pm to 7pm April 11th through April 14th. The project will culminate in a public performance on Friday, April 15th, at 7pm.
In order to create this work, we need your stories! Want to share a swing story with us? Email firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line “swing.” Don’t be shy. Selected stories will be told anonymously unless you give us permission to use your name.
This project is possible through the generous support of The Clarice and Joe’s Movement Emporium via the NextLOOK series.
